Damp, mould and leaks in Waverley homes
Waverley is the borough in the south west corner of Surrey: the towns of Farnham, Godalming and Haslemere, the large village of Cranleigh, and a long list of villages and rural parishes between them. The council is based in Godalming and the borough is named after Waverley Abbey, near Farnham. Large parts of it lie within the Surrey Hills National Landscape, and it borders Guildford and Mole Valley in Surrey, Horsham and Chichester in Sussex, and East Hampshire, Hart and Rushmoor in Hampshire. The postcode districts are GU6 to GU10, GU26 and GU27.
The ground is varied (the sandstone hills around Hindhead and Haslemere, the Wey valley through Farnham and Godalming, and the Weald clay around Cranleigh) and so is the housing. The 2021 Census counted about 52,000 households, 72 % owner-occupied, with 40 % of homes detached, 27 % semi-detached and only 17 % flats, one of the lowest flat shares of any area we list. A high proportion is older, with solid walls, chimneys, suspended timber floors and extensions of several dates.
That is where our work in Waverley concentrates: penetrating damp through solid masonry, chimney stacks and parapets, leaks under solid floors and from heating pipework, decay at ground-floor joists over damp voids, and condensation in houses that have been insulated or re-glazed without matching ventilation. On the clay around Cranleigh the ground itself adds rising moisture and seasonal movement; on the sands it rarely does. Every town and village below links to its own page.
Housing in Waverley (Census 2021): 52,448 households; 72% owner-occupied, 15% privately rented and 12% socially rented. 13% of homes are purpose-built flats, 4% are flats in converted houses or other buildings, 14% terraced houses, 27% semi-detached and 40% detached.Source: ONS Census 2021, tables TS054 (tenure) and TS044 (accommodation type), via Nomis.

Look and listen
We start by walking the property with you: every stain, smell and soft patch is a clue to where the water is.

Readings taken in a pattern up and across the wall reveal whether the water is rising, penetrating or condensing.
Thermal imaging
Infrared scanning, where suitable, to reveal hidden moisture and cold spots behind finishes.
Acoustic & tracer gas
Acoustic listening and tracer gas, where suitable, to pinpoint concealed pipe leaks.
Testing the system
Pressure tests on heating and supply circuits confirm whether the pipework is the culprit.
