The EC postcode area
The EC postcode area covers the City of London and its immediate fringes in Islington, Camden, Hackney and Tower Hamlets, with a small part of Westminster. It is the East Central district of the London post town, split into EC1 (Clerkenwell, Finsbury, Barbican), EC2 (Moorgate, Shoreditch, Liverpool Street), EC3 (Aldgate, Tower Hill, Monument) and EC4 (St Paul’s, Fleet Street, Blackfriars), each divided into lettered sub-districts; mail is sorted at Mount Pleasant.
Few people live inside the City itself, so most of our residential work in EC is on its edges: converted warehouses and workshops in Clerkenwell and Shoreditch, the Barbican and Golden Lane estates, mansion blocks and new apartment towers. Flats stacked above commercial premises, shared services and roof terraces mean the source of a leak is often several floors or one building away from the damage, which is exactly the kind of tracing we are set up for.
The four districts below list the places inside them and the borough page for each. Lettered sub-districts sit under their number.
Where the EC districts sit. Across the area City of London has places in EC1 to EC4; Camden and Islington in EC1; Hackney in EC2, all of them in Greater London. The post town for every district is London.
Housing in City of London (Census 2021), the main council area for EC postcodes in our directory: owner-occupiers make up 37% of 4,914 households, private renters 48% and social renters 15%.
