The WC postcode area
The WC postcode area is the West Central district of the London post town, divided in 1917 into WC1 (Bloomsbury, Holborn, King’s Cross, Gray’s Inn) and WC2 (Covent Garden, the Strand, Holborn, Lincoln’s Inn, Leicester Square), each split into lettered sub-districts. It covers parts of Camden and Westminster, with small pieces of Islington and the City of London: a compact area of two districts in the middle of the capital.
The housing is Georgian squares and terraces in Bloomsbury, mansion blocks and university and hospital buildings, Peabody and council estates around Holborn and King’s Cross, and flats above shops and offices across Covent Garden and the Strand. Deep plans, basements, lightwells and shared services mean leaks here are usually traced across several floors or between neighbouring buildings.
The two districts below list the places inside them and the borough page for each. Lettered sub-districts sit under their number.
